Tim-Phillips

Tim Phillips Managing Director

I passionately believe that a Will is a crucial document for protecting my clients' businesses, families, inheritance and finally bricks and mortar! I have been offering my clients a warm, caring and highly professional approach to my clients needs for more than 19 years within the financial services arena. In my experience no two clients are the same and no two families are either. This means I take a thorough approach to finding out exactly what each client's financial picture looks like, as well as their requirements. Treating each client as an individual, enables me to protect their finances and plan against future potential pitfalls - such as Inheritance Tax or care home costs. I travel throughout the country to see clients. A key thing to remember is that a Will is never 'just a Will' it needs to be the right Will, as there are huge financial ramifications to getting it wrong - this is something I can guide my clients on.

Having worked within the Financial Services Industry and specialising in the mortgage market for more than a decade, I have experienced first-hand the fact that people’s houses are literally at risk without the correct Will in place. I have a great desire to ensure that my clients are armed with the information required to make an informed choice when structuring their Will. I very much believe that a Will is essential to ensure a client's wishes are carried out after they have gone and that careful planning is considered to protect the assets that people have worked hard for over the years.

Having a young family, I fully understand how much of a worry it is for parents to ensure their children are well looked after, especially if a parent passes away when at an early age. The implications of not having a Will or even the correct Will, could be devastating for young children left behind (let alone dealing with the obvious grief). I believe that no caring parent would wish this on their children. However, unfortunately I have come across many people who simply are unaware of the consequences of not planning ahead. I’m dedicated to sharing with my clients how to set up the correct Will for their specific needs and concerns. I have worked in the Financial Services sector for over 11 years.

A properly written Will with trusts created during lifetime is the foundation for a successful financial plan. Too often the emphasis is on investment without considering the broader picture. Growing and preserving wealth within a structure that will provide for the immediate family and future generations, and keeping that wealth away from potential creditors and the taxman is vital. A financial plan without a correct will is major over-sight Linking a will with financial planning brings it all together. My clients know they will be looked after for the long-term. Consequently they tend to recommend me to their friends and family. I can concentrate my efforts on a select group of clients who appreciate a high level of service. I’ve worked in the financial services industry since 1977 and as an adviser since 1987.

Having previously seen my grandmother forced to sell her home of 40 years to fund the cost of long term care, I am focused on ensuring my clients are given the tools to potentially avoid this from happening to them. Careful Will and Estate planning can help protect one’s estate, this may be home, investments, and many other things. In my experience, the majority of clients do not want to give their home up to the local authority, or their monies to people outside their immediate family... but, unfortunately, many are unaware that steps can be put in place to avoid these things from happening.

My goal is to ensure all my clients are aware of the options available to them and are able to protect their assets and those they love.

Having previously served in the Prison Service in various managerial roles for 35 years, I have evidenced the results of wrong decisions individuals have made in their lifetime. By setting up your Will incorrectly or by not even having a Will the results would not only be felt by potentially the surviving spouse, but have wide reaching implications to your children, grandchildren and beyond. As a father and grandfather, I understand how important it is to plan for the future and ensure that one’s inheritance is protected for future generations. I’m sympathetic to people’s needs, and committed to share with them how best to plan their Wills to achieve exactly what they wish it to achieve…nothing more, nothing less.

Having over 25 years experience in Financial Services, I have witnessed many changes, not only within the Financial Industry but also in the complexity of the modern family including my own. These complexities do raise many questions, challenges and concerns. Who would look after my children if they lost their parents? How do I protect what I have worked for to ensure my wealth and possession go to the right people? Who can I fully trust to administer my estate when I have gone?  Will I have anything left to go to my loved ones if I have to go to a home in my later years? Will my ex partner/wife get my assets? Would any stepchildren benefit from my estate?

Constructing the correct Will can be the solution to many of the above problems not only for me but also for my clients. I’m passionate about giving my clients every opportunity to protect themselves, their family now and in the future – just like I have.

Having experienced first-hand the confusion and distress caused by the death of a parent without a valid will, I feel very strongly that it’s an absolutely vital issue for all households to address.

With over 10 years working in financial services, I believe that preparing a will is the final piece of the puzzle, as without proper plans in place even the most careful financial planning can be undone.

Asset Protection isn’t normally thought about until the time people need it. Most people over their lifetime have built up assets and would love the security that they can be protected. They may wish to maintain control at the same time give themselves peace of mind that they can pass them on securely. With a little foresight and a bit of help this can easily be achieved.

Having previously been a director of a long established family owned engineering business, I have witnessed the failure of that business following the untimely death of the principal owner & managing director. He died intestate (no will) no share protection; no asset protection. We were all too busy to consider protecting that which we were working hard to build.

I have a young family and like all parents think it’s really important to ensure that your children are looked after.  If a parent or indeed parent’s pass away at an early age it can cause the reverse to happen putting your children and remaining family in a financial mess.  Unfortunately lots of people are not aware of the problems that can be caused by not putting the correct plans in place.

I have worked in financial services for 16 years, approximately 15 years ago I helped clients put in place plans very similar to those spoken about on this website.  In fact, one elderly couple I helped previously,  recently both needed to move into a  care home.  As a result of the plans we put in place, thankfully  their home and savings were protected from Long term care fees provision.

I really enjoy helping people to realise the importance of future planning and ensuring that their future is taken care of.

With a 1st Class Honours Degree in Mining Engineering and a subsequent career in the mining industry which saw Clive become a Colliery Manager of many of the large mines in the UK, Clive wanted a completely different challenge. He joined a company taking instructions for Wills and associated documents to great success.

Eleven years ago Clive set up his own company, taking instructions for and processing Wills and associated documents for his own clients. As well as his own work Clive was approached by a number of national organisations to train their staff and process all their documentation. Since then his company has written tens of thousands of client Wills to great repute nationally.

Bob Massey

Bob Massey BSc., Dip., P.F.S., S.T.E.P.

Bob Massey began his career at the age of 22 as a Financial Consultant with Legal and General Financial Consultancy Services. In January 1983 he became the youngest ever Branch Manager and the Executive Sales Manager. He later became a founder shareholder and Director of a Birmingham based IFA that grew to become the largest independently owned IFA in the country.

The business was sold to a National IFA early in 2003, allowing Bob to start a new company focused almost entirely on his preferred specialist area of Estate Planning.

Upon occasion, Clive and Bob's expertise will be drawn upon by Custodis and they will be called out to see clients when dealing with particularly complex Estate Planning issues. They also provide a high level of training to our Consultants on an ongoing basis.
